Dec 1: IEEE International Conference for Women in Innovation, Technology & Entrepreneurship (ICWITE 2022) is being organized by IEEE WIE Bangalore AG along with IEEE Bangalore section between 1 and 3rd December 2022 at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. ICWITE 2022 was instituted to foster an ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship among Women, and to celebrate and
showcase women who are leaders in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Future Technology. The theme of the first edition of ICWITE 2022 will be “Engineering Sustainable Futures Responsibly”
The inauguration ceremony of ICWITE was presided by Prof. P Deepa Shenoy, UVCE, who is presently the Chair of one of the largest IEEE sections in the world – Bangalore. The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, Adamya Chetana. Dr. Tejaswini highlighted how Innovation must be incorporated across the ecosystem, through the case of the community kitchens being run by Adamya Chetana. She highlighted the importance of women in solving social challenges using the principles of engineering and technology. From providing quality, nutritious food in a timely basis as part of middy meals to now creating a sustainable kitchen with zero waste and zero fossil fuel, the community kitchen is setting a standard.
The Guest of Honour was Ms. Chayaa Nanjappa, Nectar Fresh. Ms. Chayaa talked about social entrepreneurship and how the innovations and technologies aid them. Her Nectar Fresh is now a company that provides high quality honey recognized by the industry and has improved the lives of thousands of tribal villagers. She stressed that R&D within organizations have to be more human centered and application oriented for greater impact.
The inauguration included the felicitation of all the past Women in Engineering Chairs who have contributed to the growth of the community. This was followed by keynote talks by Ms. Seema Chopra, Chief Data Scientist, Boeing and Ms. Ponni K, Global Head of Telco Cloud Data Centers, Nokia ICWITE is supported by the Government of Karnataka through VTPC, VTU and IISc. It is being sponsored by HPE, Boeing, Honeywell, Anristu, Taneira among other organizations and academic institutions. The conference will include a plethora of activities ranging from keynote addresses from eminent and expert women technologists, panel discussions to improving the impact of women in the workplace, paper and poster presentations by engineering graduates and academia, tutorials from industry specialists, project demonstrations of sustainable technology solutions by students and a doctoral consortium.
