Jakarta, Jan 2 – A massive cyclone that hit the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and the island of Java, killing 26 people and injuring many others, has set off on New Year’s Eve.
Some have disappeared in this natural disaster, and there are fears that the death toll will rise further. More than two dozen people have been killed by floods in the capital, Jakarta, Greater Jakarta and surrounding areas, and in Lebak, the island of Java, according to senior security officials who have led the rescue operation.
With the heavy storm, several houses were damaged by heavy rains, floods and landslides, and hundreds of trees and power poles were toppled.
Thousands of people have been dispatched to safe places, and a vigorous search is ongoing.
