Jun 29: The first round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between India and Togo was held on 27-28 June 2024 in Lome, Republic of Togo. The Indian delegation was led by Shri Sevala Naik Mude, Additional Secretary (C&WA), and the Togolese delegation was led by Mr. Afo Salifou, Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Togo.
During the FOC, both sides reviewed the bilateral relations, including political, trade & economic, defense, development partnership, capacity building, cultural relations, etc., and discussed ways to further strengthen the two countries’ bilateral ties. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and agreed to enhance their cooperation in the multilateral forum.
India and Togo have cordial bilateral relations. India recognized the Togolese Republic since it attained Independence in 1960. Discussions were focused on further promoting development cooperation and capacity building in the spirit of South-South cooperation. The bilateral trade and Indian investment in Togo have been growing steadily and our bilateral trade registered US$ 6.58 billion during 2022-23. The top 10 major Indian business companies together employ more than 4,000 local hires in Togo.
Both sides agreed to hold the next consultations in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date.
