Nov 04: On October 30, within the framework of the Russian presidency in BRICS, the annual plenary meeting of the BRICS Trade Union Forum was held in the format of a videoconference.
The Forum was attended by 106 delegates from 13 national trade union centers of the BRICS countries, representing almost 400 million workers in total, as well as Russian and foreign guests of honor. The main topic of the Forum was an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market in the BRICS countries, trade unions activities, their role, and tasks in the current conditions.
The Forum participants were addressed by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Anton O. Kotyakov, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sherpa of Russia in BRICS, Sergey A. Ryabkov (read full text here: https://bit.ly/34QmKuW) and other officials.
Representatives of the largest national trade union centers in Brazil, India, China, and South Africa in their speeches dwelled in general on the national peculiarities of overcoming the pandemic crisis in the labor markets of their countries. Russian delegates told in detail about joint measures to support employment and protect the income of workers, as well as efforts of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia to legislatively support the remote work. Following the results of the Trade Union Forum, the delegates adopted a Declaration (full text here: https://bit.ly/362rQDF), which reflected the position of the trade unions of the BRICS countries on the most pressing issues.
